Awareness Seminar on Child Rights and Labor
The Unnayan O Shikkha Proshar Trust (USPT) organized a seminar on April 14, 2023, to raise awareness among parents about child rights and child labor. The Program Specialist of the Unnayan O Shikkha Proshar Trust (USPT) discussed the harmful effects of child labor and emphasized the importance of protecting child rights. The Specialist also discouraged children from engaging in employment, as working at a young age can disrupt their education and normal development.
The Honorable Secretary of Ward No. 2 Councilor, the President of the UNDC Committee, local elites, teachers from other NGO schools, and staff members of the Unnayan O Shikkha Proshar Trust (USPT) were present at the seminar. A total of 55 parents attended the event.
Awareness Seminar on Child Marriage, Dowry, and Gender Discrimination for Adolescent Girls and Their Guardians
An awareness seminar on “Child Marriage, Dowry, and Gender Discrimination” was held at Alhaj Abbas Uddin High School on 10 June 2023. The meeting was moderated by USPT Chairperson Nishat Jahan Rana. Around 80 students, guardians, and CMC members attended the meeting. Participants gained an understanding of the ill effects of child marriage, dowry, gender discrimination, and related issues through this seminar.
Health Checkup of Children and Health Awareness Program
On 15 August 2023, USPT organized a health check-up campaign for children and provided health care and awareness education to the pre-primary class students at Ghasful Shishu Bandhab Shiksha Kendra, located in Anis Mia Slum, Avenue 5, Mirpur 11. A group of young trainee doctors from E Doctors participated in the discussions and provided healthcare services to the children. Seventy children attended the campaign. Each student received a toothbrush and toothpaste. Additionally, some children were provided with medical support. For example:
• Tanisha Akhter, a student of Kashful Shishu Bandhab Shiksha Kendra, New Kurmitola Bihari Camp, was given 6,500 taka.
• Mohammad Hossain, a student of Golap Shishu Bandhab Shiksha Kendra, Tekerbari, was given 3,000 taka as emergency medical assistance. Since Hossain’s treatment was expensive, USPT teacher Sithi arranged for his treatment with the help of her doctor friend. Hossain is now very healthy after receiving the treatment. Similarly, Tanisha has recovered well and is attending school regularly.
Raising Awareness About Dengue Fever and Aedes Mosquitoes
To raise awareness about dengue fever and promote cleanliness in the working areas of Unnayan O Shikkha Proshar Trust (USPT), rallies were organized with the participation of students, teachers, parents, and office staff. Bleaching powder was sprinkled around drains and centers, and aerosols were distributed to students for their safety in the centers.
Awareness activities on dengue fever and Aedes mosquitoes were conducted on 21 August at Anis Mia Slum, 23 August at Bihari Camp, and 21 September at Madbar Nagar. A total of 270 people participated in the program.
World Children's Day
This day is celebrated to protect the rights of children. Every year, it is observed worldwide on 20 November. Children are the future of the world. Therefore, parental care, education, and health are among their basic rights. However, for various reasons, not all children have access to these opportunities. Many drop out of school at a very young age, and the dropout rate has increased significantly after COVID. World Children’s Day serves as a reminder of these basic rights. The Unnayan O Shikkha Proshar Trust marks the day by engaging in discussions with students, teachers, and parents.
Victory Day
On 16 December 2023, Victory Day was celebrated in all the educational centers of the Unnayan O Shikkha Proshar Trust. On this day, an essay writing competition was held among the students on the topic of Victory Day and a drawing competition was held as well. Then, Tiffin boxes and geometry boxes were distributed among the students. 289 students participated in the Victory Day.
International Mother Language Day
On 21 February 2023, International Mother Language Day was celebrated in all the educational centers of the Unnayan O Shikkha Proshar Trust. Flowers were placed at the Shaheed Minar to pay tribute to the martyrs, and rallies were organized with the participation of students, teachers, parents, and office staff. A total of 220 students took part in the rallies.
Women's Day
International Women’s Day was celebrated on 8 March 2023 with the participation of all the teachers of USPT. Mr. Keramat Ali, an honorable member of the General Body of USPT, was present at the event. He discussed the significance of Women’s Day, focusing on topics such as gender inequality and achieving equality. Women teachers and workers were later greeted with flowers.
Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of USPT was successfully held on 29 June 2023 at Grace House, Mirpur 10. The meeting was attended by 14 esteemed members. Chairperson Ms. Nishat Jahan Rana welcomed everyone and conducted the meeting, as the members present constituted a quorum as per the organization’s constitution.
Assistant Commissioner Visited USPT Office
On 4 July 2023, Ms. Babli Shabnam, Assistant Commissioner of the Dhaka Deputy Commissioner’s Office, visited the office of Unnayan O Shikkha Proshar Trust at Mirpur 10 to observe the organization’s activities. After the visit, she expressed satisfaction and arranged for the issuance of a certificate for the implementation of foreign grant projects.
