History of SHIBASH

Shikkha Bandhob Sahayata Prakalpa (SHIBASH) is a child-centred project of Unnayan O Shikkha Proshar Trust (USPT) that runs non-formal primary education centres and supports older children to attend formal secondary schools in the poor areas of Mirpur in North Dhaka. To meet the needs of children in poor communities, SHIBASH sets up non-formal pre-primary and primary education centres that provide child-centred quality education in the heart of the children’s communities, working closely with their families.

Once children complete the first five years of school in the SHIBASH non-formal education centres, they are supported financially and emotionally, as well as academically, to attend formal schools through SHIBASH’s sponsorship programmed. SHIBASH works with the community to provide for other identified needs such as medical services, awareness of human rights and adult literacy classes for mothers. The wellbeing of children and their families is enhanced by involving communities and responding to their needs.
